Inland navigation: directly from the ship to the barge
8th August 2017

Flandres Terminal, associate partner in Nord Ports Shuttle, recently posted a video of the Dunkirk/Lille inland navigation service.
This combined Maritime/Fluvial transport service connects the ship directly to the wharf and the barge, the direct transhipment of containers optimizes the intermodal use of transport in terms of speed and efficiency.
With a seamless river link from the port infrastructure at the Flandres Terminal, the Deûle Canal and the fluvial network in the Hauts de France open a direct route to the ports of Lille, Dourges and Valenciennes. A network connected with the Escaut, a large-scale canal, and with the future Seine Nord Europe Canal.
The Fluvio Maritime Procedure (FMP) provides NPS customs clearance of goods to the final destination, Lille or Dourges for example, rather than the on-shore arrival of the ship which reinforces the fluidity of this choice of intermodal transport.
The central geographical location of the port and Flandres Terminal, at the heart of industrial Europe, offers our customers undeniable strategic advantages: reduced delivery times, for either import or export operations, an extensive offer of transport resources and quick delivery to the end consumer.
